newspaper design notes

  • two sides of newspaper broad sheet.
  • one side is tabloyed.
  • jump-when a article starts from front page & continues on the inside.
  • the flag is the name of your publication.
  • a folio includes the name of the school or the city it is from & a slogan & date, also include name of section & page number.
  • the headline are large text that grab your attention & are complete sentences (without punctuation at the end of headline) also sub headlines.
  • Captions there are three parts to a caption, every photo should have a caption, 1.) a caption head is an attention grabber & is a complete sentence, caption must be 2 sentences long, 2.) the first sentence describe the scene of photo, the 2nd sentence gives you back ground that you cant see in the photo, 3.) the photo credit the person who took the photo.
  • byline has the name of the writer & there postition
  • a jump tells you where to find the story
  • story divider a thin line between stories.
  • info graphic with info that shows us fast facts we could easily see it could be a chart of any kind.
  • must have an index
  • have a volume & issue # is the volume # & issue #  on newspaper
  • journalist descion making of what story is going to go on the newspaper & where the stories goes & the top of the fold is the important story.
